Neil the MMA

Neil The MMA Fighter

Hi, my name is Neil Grove AKA Neil “GOLIATH” Grove; I am a Professional Mixed Martial Arts Fighter holding 2 heavy weight British titles. I have 12 years of Traditional Martial Arts training and a Black Belt in Goju Ruy Karate, 4 years of Muay Thai training combined with being a Certified Personal Trainer, Sports Therapist and MMA Strength and Conditioning Coach, my experience gives me the ability to apply my knowledge and skills to create training programmes to suit everyone from the beginner to the elite athlete! I know and understand what is required to succeed from every aspect.

My experience has taken me across the world; I have fought for some of the largest organizations such as the UFC, Bellator Fighting Championships, Cage Rage and UCMMA, fighting in large arenas with live television coverage. My fights have been shown on Sky Sports locally and on all the major TV Networks in the USA and Canada.

It all started with a passion for health and fitness, which started from a young age when competing at a semi professional level in rugby in my home country South Africa.

When moving to the UK I began to practice Goju Ryu. I achieved my Shodan (black belt) in 2005. A year later, I wanted to test my ability so ventured into the world of MMA or cage fighting as it is more commonly known in the UK. I had my first fight on 26th November 2006, 19 fights later I am still going strong and loving it!

I’ve trained with some of the best, I lived in America to train in the arts of wrestling where I lived in South California and trained at Reign Training Centre under Mark Munoz, home of Fabricio Werdum, Anderson Silva and many other Brazilian fighters. I also trained at Huntington Beach Ultimate Training Centre, home to Michael Bisping, Rampage Jackson and Cheick Kongo, with whom I sparred with before his fight with Pat Barry. In the UK, I have had the privilege to train and teach with some of the UK’s finest, at Semtex Gym in Swanley, Kent, Steve Gladstone, Peter Irving, Jake Bostwick, Jason Young to mention a few!

My experience has also led me into the world of media and television. I featured in ‘A day in the life of a cage fighter’ in 2008. I was a judge in the hit reality show, Fighting Hurts in 2008. In 2010 I had a great opportunity to train as a Colour Commentator on Bellator Fighting Championships. I am now using this skill to commentate on UK MMA events such as UCMMA and BAMMA.

I have been on numerous radio interviews in the UK, Canada and in America.

My fights have also bought me a lot of press attention giving me coverage in Martial Arts Magazines like Fighters Only Magazine, HMV South Africa, MMA Uncaged…
I have appeared in a few episodes of ‘Cage Fighter’, ‘The Cage’, on Sky Sports promoting my MMA career and upcoming fights.

I have also hosted UCMMA32 with Bret Freeman. The show was live and on Primetime TV!

I’ve worked at local schools, the last one was Britain’s Academy where I taught MMA Strength and Conditioning and Bullying Awareness.

I’ve also done seminars at MMA gyms and the most recent was at the ‘Seni- the International Combat Sports Show’ in Excel London last June’12, with my Sensei, Gavin Mulholland of Goju Ryu. We spoke and taught about how effective MMA was on the street.
